Albums of the year!!!!!!

Dudes on the internet: I am totally still working on my singles list, if this is a thing that is still happening. I thought I would post up some sort of GHOST DAD ALBUM RETROSPECTIVE here, but then I noticed that this year was an insane year for music and for the last week or so I have only been listening to three things, two of which didn't even come out this year, So I'll just post pictures of those instead:

Enjoy the new year, see you all in 2007

Get it?

Year End Wrap Up....Not...Quite...Yet...

We are getting closer though. Hmm. Hopefully by the first of the year we will have a list of War&Moon and affiliates top singles (and maybe some albums too?). Be on the lookout...

In other news, I wrote the Tim Hecker - Harmony In Ultraviolet year end blurb on Tinymixtapes.com (it was #16) which was posted today. The list is aiiiight, but you know, somebody has to stick up for the little guy I guess.

OH! And our party on Saturday at Boogaloo was the SHIT! It all sort of came together at the last minute, but went real well! Certified Max couldn't make the trip, but luckily we found DJ Eleven (The Rub) at the last minute - he just swooped in out of nowhere and was the nicest dude ever! The party was shut down at 5:30 do to some thuggish ruggish brawl - but I mean, what do you expect from the Boogie? We have a couple pics for now, maybe more later:

Thanks to everybody that came through! Special thanks to Sammy Saducks, DJ Eleven, and Mr. Catchdubs! Look out for more big things in 2007!

TOMORROW NIGHT!

December 08, 2006

East Village Radio

Nick Catchdubs will be out of town so tonight I'll be hosting--and I say hosting very loosely--The Fader's radio show The Let Out on East Village Radio .

The reason I say loosely is because DJ Vin Sol will be out from San Francisco totally killin' it for a couple hours while I shout out/remind him to shout out the sponsor of the show. I'm not saying listen because of me, because I will be doing very little, I'm saying listen for some surrrrrrrrious jams.

Head down to Sway on Monday for more Vin Sol and like a kajillion other DJs including the homie DJ Equal. Flyer up top.

Damn, Tribecca is cold...

but BURNING!!!
Now I know this is no dipset holiday thing, nor a Clipse holiday thing, but don't forget to come here tonight:

We're Gifted and We're Going Far

people wonder what's wrong with 'NYC hip hop' but this was the third pic that came up when i googled that phrase

Truth be told, i'm not a huge old school rap fan. Old school referring to anything made in the 80's I guess. Obviously there are exceptions, certain jams that can't be fucked with (South Bronx, Radio, etc) but for the most part, I was raised on Wu-Tang, Native Tounges and Biggy type shit. In comparison all the earlier stuff sounds a bit too simple and amateurish for me - of course I respect it and realize its cultural and contextual importance - but I can't JAM to most of it. Top Billin' is an exception. This joint fucking moves!! It seems like every sound effect and phrase/word has been sampled at some point in the past (almost) twenty years (it came out in '88), most recently the opening drum break in Uffie's 'Pop The Glock'. This song is like a reverse Girl Talk or some shit!

More leaks..

For some reason everything has been leaking lately (What's up dope-as-fuck Jeezy album Ghost Dad copped!).. Here's this new LCD Soundsystem joint straight from Runner... who appears to be blogging again. Same with L-R. Woo!

Starter Parkas!!

Nah, not really. But I think this is easily better. I really wish that they had 6 for sale so the whole crew could tell the world it's reppin time!! In all honesty can someone send this shit Ghostface's way? Because I don't think any of us are gonna be able to scrounge up $950 for this beauty, and I don't wanna see a Football dad wearing it.

Christmass Cheer, Dipset's Here...

BALLLLIIIIIN' EVERY DAY!

What's up? Christmas came early last night when roommate, Johnny F., challenged me to an evening's worth of festive beer pong, complete with green vs. red keg cups, the Dipset Holiday Album, and sleigh bells ring-a-lingin'.

Take Back The Night!

Okay Okay Okay...
So this is weak for the most part. I mean kind of cool to see Timbo, TI, JT and co. But the real treat comes right at the end, after Timbo says goodbye as the credits are rolling there's some ill lil studio sessh ish.

If only we could all connect somehow - Timbaland+WarandMoon would be a match made in heaven.

YELP! YELP!

I'll confess: I really like Frog Eyes, a lot. Carey Mercer is a fucking animal - a frog to be exact, with big, scary, well, umm, frog eyes.

He is possessed on stage, and seems to either hypnotize or repel the audience within minutes of beginning his performance.

Swan Lake, is a super group made up of Dan Bejar (Destroyer, New Pornographers), Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown) and of course, Carey Mercer. Beast Moans, their first album should be a big disappointment - three talented Canadian songwriters in their prime, all compromising their egos to try and sell some records. But somehow, that's not what this is at all. Krug used to be in Frog Eyes, and Frog Eyes was Destroyer's backing band for a couple tours (or maybe vice-versa? i can't remember) and they even did a split album together. These people got together to make this album, because they really wanted to. Or at least that's what I want to believe. That's what comes out in their music. The combining of these three styles achieves a great aesthetic - the grandiose storytelling of Destroyer combined with the drunken heart-on-sleeve Wolf Parade whine, all put through the maniacal Frog Eyes blender leaves you with one creepy-ass fucked up indie rock fairy tale. These dudes are the wolves that will find and eat Joanna Newsom's Red Riding Hood alive. MUNCH MUNCH!

Clubbbbbbiinnnnnn'!!

Photo courtesy of The Rub Photoshop skills by ultra-mega famous graphic designer Ghost Dad

The Rub was hot fire, probably even bang city. However, the night prior to The Rub was significantly less hot fire bang city. Intrepid War and Moon bloggers CONNR and GHOST DAD ended up at Lotus. I'm not really sure how this happened to us, but we were there, and we payed $20 dollars to get in. The music was fine-- I'm always happy to hear "Superthug"--but the crowd was basically gelled bridge and tunnel striped shirt central. CONNR and I stuck out hard. So we left and got drunk for free. What struck me the most about that place though, was how much of an alternate world it was for me. There are people that go to clubs like this every weekend it's easy to forget that in my pseudo-hipster niche New York
